Invoice Tax Calculator FAQ
Why show tax per rate?
Many countries require invoices to state the net amount and tax for each rate.
Is the discount applied before tax?
Yes – tax is calculated on the discounted amount.
What about exempt items?
Enter 0 as the rate.
Does it know my country’s rates?
No. Use the rates that apply to you.
Invoices with several tax rates
Mixed invoices are common: services at the standard rate, books or food at a reduced rate, training sometimes exempt. Grouping tax by rate keeps the invoice correct and makes bookkeeping easier.
Rounding rules differ; some countries round per line, others per rate. Check your local rule if totals differ by a cent.
This calculator does not contain the tax rules of any country, state or city. It applies the rates you enter, which keeps it useful everywhere but means you should confirm the right rates and any exemptions with the official tax authority or an accountant before relying on the figure.
Tax figures are a frequent source of errors in quotes and budgets. Keeping the net amount, the tax and the gross amount side by side, as this calculator does, makes it easy to check an invoice or a receipt line by line.
