Meta Tag Generator FAQ

Which meta tags actually matter for SEO?

The title tag and meta description influence how your result appears and whether people click it. The canonical link and robots tag control indexing. The viewport tag is needed for mobile-friendliness. Open Graph and Twitter tags affect how links look when shared, not rankings.

Should I add a keywords meta tag?

It is optional and off by default. Major search engines have ignored the keywords tag for ranking for many years, so it has no SEO benefit.

How long should the title and description be?

Aim for a title of 50–60 characters and a description of 120–160. Search engines cut off longer text, and may rewrite either if they judge another passage more relevant to the query.

What size should the social sharing image be?

1200 × 630 pixels is the recommended size for Open Graph and large Twitter cards. Use an absolute https URL.

Will these tags guarantee a higher ranking?

No. They help search engines and social platforms understand and present your page correctly. Ranking depends mainly on the quality and relevance of the content and on the site as a whole.

What meta tags do

Meta tags sit in the head of an HTML page and describe it to software rather than to visitors. Search engines read the title and description to build the snippet shown in results. The canonical link tells them which URL is the definitive version when the same content is reachable at several addresses, and the robots tag says whether the page may be indexed and its links followed.

Social networks use a separate vocabulary. Open Graph, introduced by Facebook and adopted by LinkedIn, WhatsApp, Slack and others, defines the title, description and image for a link preview. X reads its own twitter: tags and falls back to Open Graph when they are absent. Supplying both sets, as this generator does, gives you control over how a link looks wherever it is shared.
