Overtime Calculator FAQ
When does overtime start?
It depends on the law and your contract: often after 40 hours a week, sometimes after 8 hours a day.
Is overtime always 1.5×?
No. Some contracts pay 1.25×, some 2× on Sundays or holidays, and some salaried roles have no overtime pay.
Does it include tax?
No. It shows gross pay; use the Net Salary or Payroll Calculator for deductions.
Can I enter minutes?
Use decimal hours: 7 hours 30 minutes is 7.5.
How overtime pay is calculated
Overtime pay is the regular hourly rate times a multiplier for each extra hour. With 40 regular hours at 22 and 6 overtime hours at 1.5×, the week pays 40 × 22 + 6 × 33.
For employers, the average hourly rate shows how much more a busy week costs than a normal one – useful when deciding whether to hire.
Keep a record of hours worked; if your payslip differs from this calculation, ask payroll how overtime was counted.
All amounts stay on your device: the calculator runs in your browser, nothing you type is uploaded or saved, and the result updates as you change any field. The currency setting only changes how numbers are shown; no exchange rate is applied.
To keep a record, copy the main result with the copy button or note the breakdown shown under it. Reset brings back the example values, which is a quick way to see how the calculation behaves before entering your own figures.
