PDF Header Footer Tool FAQ
Which placeholders are available?
{page} is the page number, {total} the number of pages, {date} today’s date in the chosen format, {title} the document title (or file name) and {filename} the original file name.
Can I skip the title page?
Yes. Choose “All except the first page”.
Will the header overlap existing text?
It is drawn on top of the page at the chosen distance from the edge. Increase the distance if the page content reaches the margin.
Can I use other alphabets?
The standard PDF fonts cover Latin characters only. The tool tells you if the text contains characters it cannot write.
Can I remove the header later?
Not with this tool: it becomes part of the page content. Keep the original file if you may need it.
Is my PDF uploaded?
No. It is processed on your device.
Headers and footers on PDF pages
Headers and footers carry information that belongs on every page: who the document is from, what it is, how confidential it is and where the reader is in it. Word processors add them automatically, but PDFs from scans, exports or merges often lack them.
This tool adds them after the fact. Each of the six positions takes its own text, and placeholders are filled in per page, so a single footer like “Page {page} of {total}” numbers the whole document. The date placeholder uses today’s date in the format you choose, and the title comes from the document properties when it is set.
You can limit the stamp to certain pages, for example everything except a cover or only odd pages for documents printed double-sided. Text is placed according to how each page is displayed, which keeps it upright on rotated pages and inside cropped pages.
The text is drawn with standard PDF fonts on top of the existing content, which stays unchanged. All processing happens in your browser.
