    Instagram Bio Generator FAQ

How long can an Instagram bio be?

Up to 150 characters, including spaces, line breaks and emoji. The name field above it has a separate limit of 64 characters and is searchable, so a keyword such as your profession belongs there too.

    What should a bio say?

Three things: who you are, what people get from following, and what to do next. A visitor decides in a few seconds whether to follow, and those three answers are what they look for.

Do line breaks work in a bio?

Yes. Instagram keeps line breaks in the bio. If they disappear when you paste, type the bio in the Instagram app or on the website, or remove any spaces at the ends of lines first.

    Should a bio have emoji?

A few can act as bullet points and add personality without using many characters. Too many make a bio hard to read and are announced one by one by screen readers. For a formal account, leave them out.

Can I put a link in the bio?

Not in the bio text itself. Instagram has a separate links field, which allows several links. The bio’s last line can point to it.

Does the bio help people find me?

The name and username are what Instagram search uses most. Words in the bio help visitors understand the account once they arrive. Put your main keyword in the name field and use the bio to persuade.

A bio is a decision aid

Someone lands on your profile from a post, a Reel or a search. They see a picture, a name, three lines of text and a grid. Within seconds they follow, look further or leave. The bio is the only part of that screen made of words you choose, and its job is to make the decision easy.

A useful bio is specific. “Food lover” describes millions of accounts; “weeknight dinners in 30 minutes” describes one kind of account and tells a visitor what will appear in their feed. The first line should identify you, the second should state the benefit of following, and the third can add location, credibility or a personal touch.

Layout matters in a space this small. One idea per line is easier to scan than a sentence that wraps. Emoji at the start of lines work as bullet points. Separators such as a centred dot keep related facts on one line. Since the limit is 150 characters including line breaks, every word has to earn its place: cut adjectives before cutting facts.

The last line is the bridge to action. Instagram places your links directly under the bio, so a short pointer there turns interest into a visit, an order or a message. Review the bio whenever what you do changes. An outdated bio that mentions a finished offer or an old city is one of the most common reasons visitors do not follow.
