PDF Booklet Maker

Make a booklet from any PDF. The tool arranges the pages two per sheet side in the order needed for folding and stapling – so after printing double-sided and folding the stack, the pages read 1, 2, 3 … – pads the document with blank pages to a multiple of four, and offers creep compensation for thicker booklets and right-to-left order for Arabic, Hebrew or manga.

PDF Booklet Maker FAQ

How should I print the booklet?

Double-sided, flipping on the short edge, at 100% (“Actual size”). Then fold the whole stack in half and staple along the fold.

Why are blank pages added?

Each folded sheet carries four pages, so the total must be a multiple of four. Blank pages are added at the end.

What is creep?

In a thick booklet the inner sheets stick out at the edge after folding and get trimmed more. Shifting their content slightly toward the fold keeps margins even. Try 0.1 mm per sheet.

What size is the finished booklet?

Half the sheet: A4 sheets make an A5 booklet, Letter sheets make a 5.5 × 8.5 inch booklet.

How many pages can a booklet have?

Saddle stitching works well up to about 60–80 pages of normal paper; thicker booklets need another binding.

Is my PDF uploaded?

No. It is processed on your device.

How booklet imposition works

A saddle-stitched booklet is made from sheets folded in half and stapled along the fold. Each sheet carries four pages – two on the front, two on the back – and the pages on a sheet are not neighbours: the outermost sheet holds the first two and the last two pages. Arranging pages in this order is called imposition.

For a booklet of n pages, the first sheet’s front shows pages n and 1, its back shows 2 and n−1, the next sheet’s front shows n−2 and 3, and so on toward the centre spread. The tool calculates these pairs, adds blank pages if n is not a multiple of four, and places each page centred and scaled on its half of a landscape sheet.

Thicker booklets need creep compensation: the inner sheets are pushed outward by the thickness of the outer ones, so after trimming their outer margins become smaller. Shifting the content of inner pages toward the fold by a fraction of a millimetre per sheet evens this out.

Right-to-left booklets reverse each pair so that the book opens from the other side. Pages are placed as vector content, so text stays sharp, and everything runs in your browser.
