PDF Page Extractor FAQ
How is this different from Split PDF?
Split PDF divides a document into several files. The extractor builds one new PDF from the pages a rule selects, such as all odd pages or everything except the cover.
Does the quality change?
No. Pages are copied with their original text, fonts and images; nothing is re-compressed.
Can I change the order?
Pages appear in the order you type them, for example “5, 1-3”. The reverse option flips the whole selection.
What happens to bookmarks and forms?
The new file contains the selected pages and their content. Bookmarks that point to other pages are not copied.
Are encrypted PDFs supported?
Remove the password with the Unlock PDF tool first, if you are allowed to.
Is my PDF uploaded?
No. The file is processed in your browser.
Extracting pages by rule
Typing page numbers works for a few pages, but many real tasks follow a pattern. A scanner that captured both sides of every sheet produces a document in which every second page belongs to the back sides. Printing on a printer without automatic duplex means printing the odd pages, turning the stack and printing the even pages. A report may need everything except its cover and appendix.
The extractor turns those patterns into rules: odd, even, every n-th page from a starting page, the first or last few pages, or all pages except a list. The thumbnails show the pages the rule selects, and clicking a thumbnail adds or removes it, so exceptions are easy.
The new document is built by copying page objects from the original, which keeps text selectable and images untouched, and it is saved with compressed object streams to keep the file small.
Because everything runs in the browser with the open-source pdf-lib and PDF.js libraries, confidential documents stay on your device.
A practical example: to print a 40-page handout on both sides with a single-sided printer, extract the odd pages and print them, turn the stack over, then extract and print the even pages in reverse order. Another: a scanner that fed both sides of every sheet produces fronts on odd pages and backs on even pages, so the even pages alone give you all the back sides.
